On January 2, 2026, a new compilation of Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 5, 8, and 9 was released under the Warner Classics label. This release features legendary recordings conducted by Herbert von Karajan with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra).

Historical Significance

The tracks in this 2026 compilation are based on Karajan's early recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic, many of which date back to his post-war period in the late 1940s and early 1950s (such as the 1947 recording of the 9th Symphony and 1950 recording of the 5th). While Karajan is most famous for his later Beethoven cycles with the Berliner Philharmoniker, these recordings with the Wiener Philharmoniker are prized for their historical intensity and lyrical quality.

The performance is divided into the symphony's standard five movements across three parts: 

I. Trauermarsch (Funeral March): 12:52

IV. Adagietto. Sehr langsam: 10:59

Characteristics

Embora existam reedições remasterizadas anteriores (como a de 2013), a referência a uma remasterização de 2026 coincide com o ciclo de vida de produtos de alta fidelidade e edições especiais de aniversário que editoras como a Warner Classics e a Deutsche Grammophon costumam lançar para este álbum icónico.
