"‘Electric park’ was the name given to several amusement parks in the United States that appeared in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, set up by companies from the then emerging industries of electricity and trolley cars.
Originally set up as picnic parks at the end of trolley lines so companies could put their trolleys to use during the weekends, quickly they became the first modern amusement parks where the attractions were the technologies themselves: people came to see and interact with the revolutionary electric medium, with its bright lights, its loud noises and its disorienting speed.
By the end of the First World War, all parks had gone out of business. The Electric Park was no longer needed, as everyone was now living inside it.
And so are we.

"God isn't interested in technology! He knows nothing about the potential of the microchip or the silicon revolution. If I were creating the world I wouldn't mess about butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers, eight o'clock, day one!"
