Reception and Context

This album is the third installment in the Arcadia Quartet's complete survey of Weinberg's string quartets. The release has been well-received by critics, with praise for the quartet's technical skill and interpretive depth. It was awarded a "Diapason d'or" (Golden Diapason) by Diapason magazine and was nominated for an ICMA (International Classical Music Awards) in 2024.

The album presents two works from contrasting periods of the composer's life, offering a comprehensive look at his evolving style: the Fourth Quartet, from shortly after he moved to Moscow, and the Sixteenth Quartet, a more harmonically complex and intense work dedicated to his sister who perished in the Holocaust.
